Mostly because their new stuff is awful. "Horchata" made me want to put icepicks in my ears, and I'm not even kidding. I thought I'd give them just one more shot, but I just heard the new video for "Cousins," and I have to say, the thrill is gone, Elvis has left the building, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I liked their first cd, once you get past the Ivy League/white boy reggae preciousness. "A-Punk" was a real standout, as was "Bryn" and "Oxford Comma." Throw in "M-79" and "Campus" and that was really all it had to offer. Yes, that is half the cd, but "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" and "Blake's Got a New Face" really grated on my nerves.
So goodbye Vampire Weekend. I will miss your pretty preppy boys, but not your sound. Yuck.
Next career: Peter Gabriel's backup band.
